Hi, Greater Albuquerque Cyclist, BikeABQ had a nice turn out at the Jan 24 meeting. The mention of Bike Swap seems to be the reason,
which is heartening as we need as many volunteers as we can get.
-The good news was that Ann Overstreet agreed to be the facilitator to organize Bike Swap, set for Saturday April 21, 2012.
Some of you may remember her and her daughters, Rachel and Erinmarie, as the head persons organizing the check-in on Thursday
and Friday before the event. In the past, Martha Hardman organized much of the other work. Martha hopes to help on the day of the Swap,
so there will be many familiar faces as well as new ones.
-Bike to Work Day will be Friday, May 18, 2012.
We need volunteers for that event too. We also can use lots of donations of give-aways, food, drinks, etc.
If you or you know a business that would like to help, please contact board@bikeabq.org.
-You may remember last year that in June, Women Riding Well organized a biking event at the Los Ranchos Growers Market on Rio Grande.
They hope to make it bigger and better this year. They will probably host a ride service that goes there.
The New Mexico Touring Society will probably have a ride to the event also.
I will keep you posted, and you can check the BikeABQ web site.
-Speaking of the web site, please log on, as Stephen Hartsfield has it looking good. We hope to keep it updated.
However, it is still under construction so parts may be down. Stephen says the PayPal link is not working at the moment.
You can use PayPal to renew your membership by going to the PayPal site. -In connection with the Chappell issue, which has been resolved, the City has been planning under-crossing at Menaul,
Candelaria, Montgomery, and Osuna for a while. Osuna is supposed to be first. Of course, cyclists will definitely need to use Chappell
during the construction.
-An important issue for cyclists is House Bill 12. This bill will hold motorists accountable for crashes with cyclists.
Go to Duke City Wheelmen's web site to learn more about the bill. Ask your Representative to support this bill.
-Balloon Fiesta is already working with us and the New Mexico Touring Society on Bike Valet Parking, so mark your calendars for Oct 6th-14th. Dianne Cress, Treasurer/Membership
