There will be stops along the course where riders will receive playing cards and after all riders have completed the course, the rider with the best hand will win. White Sands National Monument Moonlight Ride. On these nights, the Dunes Drive is re-opened for three hours after dark for bicycles only. Advance registration required. The beautiful century route goes North to Leadville, along the scenic rolling hills of Turquoise Lake Road, around the Mineral Belt Trail passing aspen groves and conifer forests, meandering through the historic Leadville Mining District, and back to Buena Vista in the shadows of Colorado’s highest mountain peaks. A 6-mile climb to Black Canyon National Park kicks off the century, then the courses meander on rural farm roads. Shorter options -- 30, 40, 60 miles -- are offered along with a 17-mile mountain bike jaunt on spectacular singletrack near town. Mission to Ride benefits a Montrose physicians' group that provides free medical care for low-income people. Mission to Ride Saturday, May 17, 2008 Davis Double Century Davis Bike Club Wednesday, May 21, 2008 Ride of Silence Join cyclists nationwide in a silent slow-paced ride (max. 12 mph) in honor of those who have been injured or killed while cycling on America's public roadways. And to RAISE AWARENESS that we are here and to ask that we all SHARE THE ROAD at 7:00 pm. The Ride Of Silence is a free ride that asks its cyclists to ride no faster than 12 mph and remain silent during the ride. There is no brochure, no sponsors, no registration fees and no t-shirt. The ride, which is being held during Bike Safety month, aims to raise the awareness of motorists, police and city officials that cyclists have a legal right to the public roadways. The ride is also a chance to show respect for those who have been killed or injured. Ride through pine forests, rolling grassy countryside, including a couple of great climbs and descents! GABA-Tucson May 24, 2008 Iron Horse Classic Annual Iron Horse Bicycle Classic - Durango, Colo. Citizen's Road Race/Tour Saturday, from Durango to Silverton at 0745am. A tough 47 Miles, 5500' elevation Gain: Coal Bank Pass and Molas Pass. Be prepared for bad weather: rain, snow, cold, and wind! Usually well attended by NMTS members. There is a self-imposed 2,500 rider limit for all riders to Silverton, don't miss out by waiting to register. Otero Cyclery June 14, 2008 Cochiti 100 100-miles of awesome OFFROAD riding at Cochiti starting from Dixon’s Apple Orchard. Climbing is estimated to be over 16,000 vertical feet! With Dixon’s as a base, the race will consist of 3 seperate loops and allow people to restock their food and water when completing a loop. With technical singletrack, and big climbs, this race is not for the faint of heart. New Mexico Endurance Series June 14 - 20, 2008 Cycle the Columbia Gorge 7 Days, 326 miles, $949, 100 riders. Catered Food. From Portland ride along the Sandy River, over a flank of Mount Hood, the Hood River, to the Dalles, along the Columbia River Highway State Bike Trail through the Twin Tunnels. Cross the Columbia River into Washington State and pass the Yakima Indian Reservation and the Conboy Lake National Wildlife Refuge at the foot of Mount Adams. Cross the Columbia on the Bridge of the Gods at Cascade Locks along the Historic Columbia River Highway to Portland. Ride The Rockies Online June 16 - 20, 2008 Katy Trail Ride The annual Katy Trail Ride allows bicyclists to experience Katy Trail State Park from Clinton to St. Charles. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources and Missouri State Parks Foundation annually hosts the ride. The ride covers approximately 225 miles of Katy Trail and 18 miles of the MKT Trail into Columbia. The surface of the Katy Trail is packed crushed limestone. Mountain bicycle and hybrid bicycle tires are best suited for the trail. Valles Caldera August 2 - 7, 2008 Tour of the Nations Tour of the Nations is a 5-day recreational and educational bicycle ride that winds participants through four Indian Nations; Isleta, Laguna, Acoma, and Zuni. The ride also travels through two National Monuments, El Malpais and El Morro, and the communities of Grants, Ramah, and Gallup. The spectacular LaSal Loop begins with a gradual climb through Spanish Valley south of Moab. Then the rider is rewarded with a memorable descent through forest colors down into Castle Valley to the Colorado River. The 100-mile route turns east to the Dewey Bridge.
