Mora Raspberry Lollipop Ride
The Mora Raspberry Lollipop Ride explores some of the rural roads in northern New Mexico. Ride north along NM518 with a stop at Salman Ranch to see how the raspberry crop is doing. Riders could fuel up at Salman Ranch in their snack bar or continue to Mora just five miles away. Check out the historical waterwheel and mill at the ranch.
Mora Hill
Turn south on NM94 in Mora. The turn is early n Mora and not marked. The only sign is a brown sign for Morphy State Park. The paved road is between two building with no sidewalks and looks like a local street but it heads south out of town and then starts climbing. Watch for the climb to the south of Mora as you enter town. It's hard, shades of Heartbreak Hill, but doesn't last that long. Then enjoy some downhill as you ride through cool green meadows and pass some curious Alpaca.
When you come to the stop sign at NM105 turn left to Sapello. Climb into ponderosa forests. Then there are large rollers all the way to NM518. Turn south on NM518 back to Storrie Lake State Park at Las Vegas.
Take plenty of water and munchies since there are sparse supplies along the way.
Route Map
There are great views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains to the west and Hermit Peak (10,260') in particular.
Thanks to Jim Gooding for developing this ride.
