Springer - Cimarron Loop
The Springer - Cimarron Loop is in northern New Mexico. This loop goes west from Springer and is mainly through arid ranch land that skirts the heavily forested Sangre de Cristo Mountains to the west into pleasant Cimarron.
Traveling west from Springer following NM199 you ride across the plains towards Miami skirting mesas to the south. Just before the intersection with NM21 you cross the old Santa Fe Trail (Mountain Route).
Turning north you pass through Rayado with the Philmont Scout Ranch and the mountains to the west. Cross the Cimarron River into pleasant, green, Cimarron.
From Cimarron take NM58 east, not US64 to Raton! On NM58 you cross the Santa Fe Trail again and hit I-25 at French Corners.
The ride is mostly in the open, vulnerable to the wind and heat. There are places to resupply in Cimarron.
