This probably gives it away but Where's Waldo is an easy mountain bike ride north of Albuquerque. The route follows a dirt road downhill 8 miles to Cerrillos. This unfortunately, is the low point. You can add 3 miles by climbing to Madrid. The return route is the same. It's uphill back to the cars from Cerrillos.
Where's Waldo Map
Ride from I-25 through Waldo to Cerrillos. There is an interesting church and a petting zoo in Cerrillos. Just east of Cerrillos is NM14. You could continue north on NM14 to Lone Butte and east to I-25, then south to the cars for a long loop.
There are small stores in Cerrillos and Madrid to pick up snacks.
Getting There: Take I-25 north from Albuquerque or south from Santa Fe to exit 267. Park and take the dirt road east from I-25..
Distance: 23 miles roundtrip, fairly flat.Options:
- Continue south on NM14, see the Madrid Gold Rush, or continue north to Santa Fe.
- Or make a long loop by going north on NM14 to Lone Butte and turning west on CR45 to I-45. Then ride south on the frontage road to the starting location.
Notes: Cerrillos, Madrid, or the Lone Butte store / restaurant are the only places to get water. There is a grocery store and several coffee shops in Madrid.
Note that the elevation change is only 600' despite the steep looking profile.
