IMPORTANT NOTE: Because of construction at the Alameda Open Space parking area, starting July 5th this ride will start at the Open Space Shining River Parking Area west of Rio Grande and south of Paseo Del Norte. We will return to the Alameda Open Space parking area once the construction is complete.
This is a variation of the familiar Sunday Bosque ride. We will have different ride leaders each Sunday. The basic route is to head south on Rio Grande Blvd (to avoid the crowds on the trail near the Open Space) and turn right to rejoin the bike path (at Candelaria, Campbell or further south). The group will pause at Rio Bravo and ride around the Chris Chavez loop, and head north again on the Bosque bike trail. New option to ride down to the Valle de Oro National Wildlife Refuge (for 36 miles). Participants have their choice of coffee shops - Java Joe's at 906 Park Avenue; Bike-In Coffee at 949 Montoya St. NW (accessible from the bike path south of I-40); or others. All paces; ride can be shortened if desired.
Sunday will be an easy ride, a warm-up for Monday's Birthday Buds ride!
New ride name, same old ride. Hope you can make it!
The route will be influenced by the weather. Expect shorter rides on inclement days, longer ones on perfect ones. If you see a freshening wind from the south, we'll probably go that way first so we can get a nice tailwind on the way back. And so on. You get the idea.
The ride will not be swept, but we generally have plenty of regroup points.
"Start the Week Rite Ride."
This is the traditional Monday "Start the Week Rite Ride."
NOTE: Ride Start time changed to 10:00 am Local Time. We will not change the start time when all clocks are moved 1 hour forward in November for the end of Daylight-Saving Time.
We usually have between 5 and 10 riders. From O’Bean’s we ride the Tramway Trail South past Manitoba and Regroup. From there we head north on the Tramway Bike Lane and regroup after passing County Line restaurant. Then we head downhill for 1.5 miles to a Historical Marker, make a U-Turn and head back up Tramway. There is an alternate turnback point at the La Luz turnoff. Then another regroup point across from County Line.
There are two alternate routes back to O’Bean’s. One is to stay on Tramway Bike Lane or Bike Trail. The other is to make a left turn onto Tramway Lane at the Ice Rink for some twists and turns with ups and downs.

New to cycling or returning after a hiatus? The Easy Group Ride is an easy pace, relaxed, stress free ride down the Bosque Trail. We will start at the Alameda Open Space parking lot near the trailhead and ride 7 miles south down the beautiful Bosque Trail to the I-40 crossover. We will turn left there and continue east a half mile to Bike in Coffee. Alternatively we could go to another place such as Flying Star on Rio Grand or other place for coffee.
If you are new to group rides, intimidated by the faster or longer distance rides, or perhaps want to introduce a friend or family member to riding then this ride is for you. We will stay together and work on riding skills, safety and etiquette. A great way to build up some fitness and prepare for some of the longer, faster rides in NMTS. Another great beginner ride is the Start the Week Rite ride on Mondays.
